On this journey of life, it isn't always easy or pleasant. I used to think, "Geez! If I were really enlightened, I would not have pain or suffering. I would not be angry or reactive. I would not have accidents befall me. Life would simply unfold with only happiness and awareness. I would be love and compassion 24/7.
A much-needed ah-ha! moment struck me, courtesy of Natalie Sudman (author of The Application of Impossible Things). It goes a little something like this: I don't have to be perfect, until I can show up with my gifts to share with the planet. I don't have to have all the answers, or hold all the knowledge I have ever learned, cramming it in my brain. Just because I have human foibles and reactions doesn't mean that I haven't been enlightened. There is still the aspect of "chop wood, carry water." Stuff happens. Someone gets angry at me and I get sad. Sometimes it "takes me a minute" to get the soul purpose in the event, the lesson, or just to see that even in human tragedy there is beauty and gifts to be mined. They are there, sparkling among the rubble and chaos.
This life is where human and Divine intersect, and living the Divine, doesn't mean that I don't have to live the human part of the equation. When I "got" that I was still going to have a human existence while here on earth, I got happier in the process. And, the beautiful thing that happens is I am always connected to the Divine. Living this human life, doesn't preclude me from that connection. The field is always available to me. The greater question becomes, "Where is my attention?" From human thought to Divine Truth is just a shift of focus. What I need to know comes to me when I need to know it. Guidance bubbles up and is channeled through me, for me and for others. Having a white-knuckle grip on "information" isn't necessary or helpful, and when I know the bigger picture of a situation, in that moment, I can release the human suffering.
As luck would have it, another one of my inspired teachers, Sue Frederick has just written an article for The Huffington Post, and it captures this theme perfectly. I also love that it shows how to refocus your Divine Lens. Have you been able to refocus to the gift within your experience? Enjoy the article!
